Welcome
I started Run 4 Vision in 2007 in preparation for the Marathon des Sables. After having watched a blind Japanese runner on TV conquering that cruel 7-day race across the desert, I did not need much more encouragement to dedicate my future running to a good cause.
Sadly, still today a person goes blind on this planet every 15 minutes, simply because they are born in the wrong place, without access to eye health care, suffer from malnutrition, and live in a poor hygienic environment.
I support the vision and dream of the late Professor Fred Hollows, and with my running I try to raise funds for The Fred Hollows Foundation and help visually impaired people getting a fair go at running and enjoying the great outdoors.
I hope you enjoy my stories of running across the desert of Morocco, guiding my blind friend in The Comrades in South Africa, or my being part of Ben's adventure racing the Sydney Marathon.
What's next?
My next challenge – as part of team 'Run 4 Vision' – will be the 100 kilometres between Palm Beach and Coogee Beach along the East coast of Sydney as part of the Coastrek 2012. My three team mates and I are committed to cover the distance as fast as possible and to raise enough money to give at least 100 needlessly blind people their sight back.
Please come back to this site and follow my blog to learn about our progress in training and our exciting fundraising events.
Remember – we are doing the hard part by running 100 kilometres. You have the easy choice of making a big difference by supporting us to keep going!
Happy feet,
Markus
